In 1952, Kahlo married the Mexican Communist leader Frida Kahlo and changed her name to "Marina." In 1954, two years after Diego's death from a heart attack at age seventy-five, Marina suffered a near fatal accident that left her partially paralyzed and unable to paint or hold a brush.
